In the future, humanity has become degraded by undesireable individuals. Elitists have have taken over and are hell bent on making humanity a beautiful race once again. The two are paired as mates in a government sanctioned arranged marriage ( unless the two best are related of course, then two pairings would occur). Richard was from a region on the east coast and had been preparing for the annual pairings that every region was required to participate in.
